Intimate – yet Extravagant Celebration

Renee and Chance got engaged and literally jumped on getting hitched as soon as possible. I had the pleasure of meeting them, taking their engagement photos and their wedding in the course of several months. What a whirlwind!

Historic Duluth

The celebration kicked off at the historic Fitgers Inn down on the shores of Lake Superior. Renee had a beautiful suite to prepare with the help of her mom. Fitgers seemed so appropriate since the bride chose to wear her mom’s vintage wedding dress from the early 90’s. (I hate that the early 90’s is considered ‘vintage’…. I digress). The dress received some minor updates and had one of the longest trains I’ve ever photographed. It was a showstopper for sure, and beautiful Renee looked amazing.

Laughs Before Tears

The first look is always one of the more emotional and exciting elements of a wedding day. Since Renee and Chance’s relationship focuses heavy on laughter, one of Chance’s groomsmen decided to pull one over on him to do a surprise ‘first look’. As we were getting into position, he had several people stop him to say congratulations, which is also so typical of Duluth…. The look on Chance’s face was priceless!

First Look with Extra Celebration Cheers

Most first looks (the real ones, that is) happen in private so the couple can enjoy a few minutes of privacy and intimacy before the chaos of the day starts. I’m very protective of this portion of the day for the sake of my couples. In the case of this day, and since it was a picture-perfect Duluth-day down on the Lakewalk of Lake Superior, there were loads of onlookers from the restaurant decks and the scenic tour train passing by. When the big moment came, everyone cheered and yelled their well-wishes. It was extra special!

Duluth Monument with Amazing View

The ceremony took place at the Historic Enger Tower, which was also the location where Renee and Chance became engaged. They said “I do” with the rolling hills and the big lake again as their backdrop. The vows were followed by a yummy dinner catered by Famous Daves. I’ll just say that the jalapeño mac-n-cheese hit the spot after the busy day. Desert was about the best salted caramel and chocolate cupcakes around. Treats after dinner are always a highlight!

Lake Superior Cruise and Party

What a better way to end the night, than by a stary-skied cruse on the Vista Queen. The temps and wind were mild and everyone enjoyed the ride with a cocktail in hand. I’ll say, it was a packed to the brim day of fun, but one that I’m so happy to be a part of!

Congratulations Renee and Chance!
